Goals to Guide Your Way – Part Two
If you’ve lost your job, here are some questions to guide your way.
What am I leaving that I’m glad to say good-bye to? Are you happy to leave the rigidity of an office? Are you tired of being tasked with an unending list of minutia? Are you exhausted by your commute each day? Are you finished with not being paid your worth?
What were you hoping to FIND as you move forward? Are you looking for more financial freedom? Peace of mind? Work that excited you? A team that you build and adore working with? Use the answers to these questions to help you set new goals – goals that can guide you forward in life like a GPS. Take some time and really think about this, and then create a list of what you WANT for your life and career. Do you see yourself as the CEO of a vibrant consultancy? Do you long for the stability of a new role in a normal 9-to-5 job?
What are your BEST skills and assets? Remember, we are no longer forced to be chameleons, good at everything thrown at us by an unappreciative boss or company – we are now free to embrace the unique and vibrant gifts that we each have, and to build our new careers, businesses and lives around those talents.
Use your answers to these questions as tools. Discovering your niche, developing a level of expertise and producing work that you love every day is an experience everyone should have in their lives. So use your best assets and most loved tasks as the guidelines for your goals, dreams and your GPS. In your mind, let GPS stand for Goals, Progress and Solutions. Remember, like the economy, it’s not that nothing ever gets in your way again, but if you can STOP for a few minutes and remember your GOALS, then come up with a plan to continue your progress and SOLUTIONS, no matter what, you WILL stay on track. Your goals aren’t cast in stone of course. Sometimes when we’re out of work, we need to take a turn or a path that we didn’t plan on – or that doesn’t SEEM to move us forward – but if you keep your eye on your ULTIMATE destination – your personal GPS, then you WILL have a better life and always be moving forward toward your dreams.
