3 Tips on Marketing Your Business to Millennial Employees
You might be surprised to find out that what Millennials want from their employers isn’t all that different from what other generations seek. That said, when you cultivate an atmosphere of fair compensation, career development and trust, you’re in excellent position to market your business to Millennial employees. We break down tips on marketing to Millennials below:
1. Emphasize Professional Development Opportunities.
Millennials crave change and growth; in fact, 68 percent of Millennial respondents in a 2012 staffing agency survey explained that job growth and development is a priority for them. When you interview them, ask how taking this job makes sense for them, and how they’d like to grow professionally. Explain the programs your business offers to make this happen, such as training conferences, in-house classes and college classes.
2. Be Honest and Transparent.
Millennials grew up in a time where a simple ill-advised post could destroy a business; technology has effectively crumbled the walls that businesses put up. When marketing your business to potential Millennial employees, never try to conceal things from employees and customers alike. Explain why you make the decisions you do, how those decisions affect different groups of people, and when mistakes happen, explain why and how you’re working to make sure they do not occur again.
3. Cultivate Flexible Work Situations.
Flexible work situations go beyond telecommuting; you must have trust in place, and prioritize results over the amount of time put in. Focus more on accomplishments rather than on which workers were in the office before you. In fact, flexible work situations could even mean redefining your organizational hierarchy. Millennials want to get recognized and promoted for the work they do rather than for how long they have worked at the company. Offer steppingstone titles and positions; Millennials would rather not wait up to five years to move to a new level.
